We have been reading about sun from the small age and see it everyday many times. We have been using sun for many purposes directly or indirectly. To specify few examples- drying clothes, obtain solar energy etc. And apart from this we also get “vitamin D”from the rays of sun which makes us healthier, fair and shiny. Hydrogen is the primary cause for any reaction that takes place in the sun. Now , you would ask how? But wait, let me explain it. Hydrogen atoms are available in large quantity in the sun-particularly in the core part of sun, that is the centre part of the sun. Now since there are large amount of hydrogen atoms, they join or stick together and forms the helium atoms. when there occurs this process of combining, a large amount of energy is produced. Technically this process of combination is defined as “Fusion”. The hydrogen atoms fuse together to form the helium atoms thus producing a massive amount of energy. This action is called as proton - proton chaining.
When this energy is produced, they actually try to move to the nearest places around the sun. But could you imagine how much energy the each helium atom produces after fusion in terms of temperature? Its 13,600,000 Kelvin. What would happen if this heavy temperature is passed to the nearby planets of the sun? We would never exist . But still we do. how? The Sun basically has three layers.
First most layer is radiative zone. Then comes the convective zone and finally the photosphere . The photosphere is the visible part of the sun which humans see at present.
At the radioactive zone, the energies are absorbed at the temperature at which it is produced. the heat is transferred because the helium photons carry the heat to some extent then, as the altitude increases the photons are again reabsorbed or recaptured by them. This stage is where the heat temperature is reduced to 5700 kelvin.
The next layer is the convective zone, whose layer is not enough thick to absorb the heat and then passes the rays to the photosphere - the outermost layer of sun. Now when the rays transfer to photosphere, since they travel to the cool atmosphere they bounce back to the first layer and absorb as much heat possible and then passes it through the photosphere. This amount of energy is only absorbed by earth and other planets. However , the amount of heat decreases as the planets orbit radius is larger.
Now, when the ray pass to earth, initially the Ultra Violet rays are filtered through the ozone layer- which is considered as the protective layer for the earth. But it is noticeable that ozone layer depletes when there occurs much pollution it couldn’t bare or control. Remaining rays fall on earth thus making the living beings adoptable on earth with correct temperature to live in.
